My theme for my final portfolio is animals. This theme seems basic but it means a lot to me. I love animals and I want to have a job like a veterinarian or something animal related when I'm older. That is why I chose this theme. All of my artwork has animals in it. Each piece is a different type of animal from different environments. First, The Elephant painted on the wall outside Mrs. Purtee's room, Elephants roam natural habitats like deserts and grasslands. This is my favorite thing in art I did ALL year because everytime I go to art class I see it. Also, it came out even better than I thought it would. I faced some challenges when painted this. What happened was I let the paint dry and when I went to peel up the tape I used to make the sharp lines it also peeled up some paint. To fix this I just touched up the places that got peeled up and you can't even tell that happened. I used acrylic paint for this because I knew that it was stay on the wall relatively well. Second, My chair in art class, Which I painted a colorful gradient on and a white silhouette of two birds on a string. I didn't face many challenges with this, but I was pretty hard to get the gradient to fade well into each different color. I also used acrylic paint for this because I knew it would stay the same as my elephant. Third, I painted a watercolor whale. I used watercolor paint for this because I wanted it to look like it was meant to be in water like a whale should be. The main challenge was first, getting the whale to look sort of realistic. To fix this I tried drawing different types of whales and I drew them many many times. I love all of the different animals I painted for my final portfolio. My favorite is definitely the Elephant on the wall outside Mrs. Purtee's room because I get to see it everyday when I walk to art or walk through this hallway. I think I improved a lot throughout the year. For example, I learned how to paint a gradient and I love painting them now it's really fun. I painted a black and white gradient and it's hung up in my room now. That is why I painted a rainbow gradient for the background of my chair. Art is definitely my favorite class I've ever taken. I haven't ever taken an art class in middle school because of band class. I hope I can take Art 2 next year.

I redid a 3D penguin sculpture I made in the 2nd ish grade. My modern one is in the kiln so I couldn't add a picture, but this project was very fun to make. It helped me realize how much I have improved from elementary school and what i am capable of now. When I made it in elementary school I remember I was very proud of it because everyone said mine was so good, but now that I look at it I'm confused why I thought that.
This is a picture of my design process. I practiced the drips of water color so I knew how much paint I need and how it was going to look and I didn't mess up on the sketch of the girl. If i did practice with the sketch of the girl and I messed up I would have to restart and redraw the girl. This is my final drawing. My artwork relates to the element color because the dress is spilling with rainbow colors. You could say this is also shape because the drips are in the shape of the bottom of a dress.
An artist would choose to use limitation to draw something because it lets them stretch their creativity to its fullest extent. Working this way can change how an artist thinks because it can make the artist have to change the style of their drawing. Lastly, it can change how people view the artwork because people will appreciate the art more because it not just any old piece that anyone can do.
I learned a lot of things about space during this unit. I learned about one point perspective drawings and how you have to line everything up with the vanishing point with a ruler. I also learned about thumbnail drawings. I think thumbnail drawings help you understand what you are going to do for the final drawing. I learned about dimension and how to draw in 3D. This applied what I learned to my painting by added shading to the planet and light and darks parts to the galaxy.
